Its Always On My Mind – Landscape & Me

What makes landscape so all engrossing, and where does landscape student’s passion to transform the world come from?

Its Always On My Mind – Landscape & Me, is a new SLIC sponsored video competition being launched this month via YouTube which challenges students to give their personal take on the motivations and inspirations which have lead them to landscape architecture, and what keeps them hooked.

“Landscape is definitely a 24 hour experience - it becomes a huge part of your life and the way you see things,” says SLIC President Ian Lanchbury of Manchester Metropolitan University.

“We wanted landscape students to talk about their passions or their personal journeys, what fascinates and inspires them and what its like to live in a landscape student’s mind.”

Entries can be about student or studio life, constant landscape thoughts, sleepless nights, stress, the enjoyment of good environments and places, the title Landscape Architect, or just loving your designs, says Lanchbury.

Entries are encouraged to be innovative and creative and may just be a metaphor of your thinking. The more interesting or unique the video, the better!

“Technological virtuosity in video making is not necessary – you can either hire equipment from your university’s technical store, or you could just use your mobile phone! The choice is yours, as long as it fits the title “It’s Always On My Mind - Landscape & Me”.

Entries should be no more than 5 minutes long and be uploaded on the special competition site on YouTube http://www.youtube.com/group/SLIC by the closing date 25 April. Judges will be looking at overall Impact, originality, memorable content and delivery. The winner will receive a first prize of £500 and there will also be two further cash prizes of £100 for runners up.
