Dear All,

I am still looking for additional people for each of the days - particularly students so if you could pass this on to anyone who you think may be interested that would be great. The places will be on a first come first served basis and in exchange for your time on the LI stand the LI are covering the cost of travel to and from the event and lunch. You will also have time to check out the other stands during the day.

I have also been asked by the LI to supply a list of home addresses so that the badges can be sent out to the people helping out on the stand in advance of the event. So if you could get this info to me asap that would be great.

Many thanks

In today’s urban development these produce opportunities to reduce global warming, reduce living costs and keep ecological habitats existing alongside modern urban living. If you’re interested in attending it will start at 4.00pm with a brief talk by Sue Beard from the Landscape Institute to explain more about the LI, the role it will play in your career, membership and Pathway to Chartership; this will be followed by Nigel’s lecture.

Come to in on 9th February 2007 to find out more!

Cityscape 2007

When: 27th February- 1st March 2007 Where: Earls Court 2, London

SLIC has continued to be involved with Cityscape since our last successful Student Exhibition last year. This year we have been given the opportunity to design and create the centrepiece ‘Streetscene’ for the exhibition and conference at Earls Court 2, and, we have been given extra exhibition space. This provides a chance for you, the students, and your universities to showcase work to the professionals attending the event!

This event arrives at a pinnacle time with the world’s focus on our environment. Some of the leaders in sustainability products and design theories will converge to hear the very latest in progress to reduce carbon emissions and increase the longevity of a liveable planet.

We have negotiated heavily discounted prices on your behalf for the conference so you can benefit from the first time that the annual events Futurebuild, Ecobuild, Regenex and Cityscape have combined into one!

The event is FREE to students to look around the halls and 60 free of charge seminars for students to attend. Also, there is a conference consisting of 6 half day modules and we’ve haggled them to £25.00 per module!

Prices are good and so places will go fast, book your place now to have a chance to attend! If there’s a group of you interested maybe there’s potential for a university organised trip?

We are soon to arrange a prize draw for free places so look out for the ad on the website and on the mailing list!

Summer Event 2007

Where do we go? You decide! Slic are holding a council meeting a week Friday to arrange the summer event; now is your chance to make suggestions of where you think we should visit! E-mail: kate-slic@hotmail.com with suggestions before Friday 9th February to have your suggestions considered! We look forward to seeing you.

All the best,

As a new academic year begins SLIC would like to welcome all new students and existing students back to uni/ college to another year!
We would also like to introduce ourselves; we are a council of representatives from the accredited courses across the country, sponsored by the Landscape Institute. Four or five times a year we voluntarily meet up at different schools to arrange our own events, arrange student rates at bigger events, discuss and resolve issues from a student perspective and work to better the life of students like you!

This year we need to here from you, the students, to see what you want and need. All you need to do is speak to your school rep or leave a message for us here on the website and we’ll see if we can help!

If you want to get involved just leave a message with us or speak to your course leader.

Enjoy this year, and keep an eye on the website for any events coming up!

At the end of June 2005, IFLA held their annual conference in Edinburgh. SLIC organised and hosted a number of events which ran alongside the conference. Our main event was Paint the Town Red, which we held the weekend before the conference began. The weekend involved running around Edinburgh in teams interpreting 5 separate questions with as much imaginative flare as the students could muster. It was a great success and everyone had a great time. It was an excellent opportunity to meet other landscape students and make new friends.

We rejoined the professional delegates on Monday for the conference, which included some fascinating seminars about projects going on all around the world. Monday evening the student exhibition showing work from universities all around the country, moved down to the Royal Botanic Gardens from Edinburgh College of Art for the opening ceremony and reception. The exhibition was well received by all the delegates who seemed in awe of the standard of the work.

Tuesday SLIC hosted an open meeting for the attending student entitled, Meet SLIC. This gave everyone the opportunity to give us feedback about the week, their thoughts about what SLIC should be doing more of and ideas for possible events we could organise in the future.

The conference continued till Wednesday when SLIC took the student delegates to Little Sparta, which is the famous sculpture garden of Ian Hamilton Finlay in the Borders of Scotland. With exception to the weather, the day was really enjoyable and the gardens interesting and beautiful. That evening, after drying off, we rejoined the professional delegates for the closing ceremony, dinner and ceilidh. After a fantastic meal, awards ceremony and far too much wine, we Scottish danced the night away, shoulder to shoulder with some of the most famous Landscape Architects in the country, and the world.

All in all the week was a great success and enjoyed by all. We had some excellent feedback from students and professionals alike, and have been given further opportunities to exhibit student work since.
Thank you very much to everyone who put so much hard work into the event and also to everyone who supported us.
