Slic Update Jan 2007

Students,

Just a quick e-mail to make sure you don’t miss out on the next big events coming up;

Nigel Dunnett, Green/ Brown Roofs and Living Walls Lecture

When: 4pm, 9th February 2007 Where: Studio 2, Floor Three of the Sheffield University Arts Tower, Winter Street, Sheffield

 SLIC (Students Landscape Institute Council) have arranged a talk to be given by Nigel Dunnett, one of the UK’s top experts for Green/Brown Roofs and Living Walls. In today’s urban development these produce opportunities to reduce global warming, reduce living costs and keep ecological habitats existing alongside modern urban living. If you’re interested in attending it will start at 4.00pm with a brief talk by Sue Beard from the Landscape Institute to explain more about the LI, the role it will play in your career, membership and Pathway to Chartership; this will be followed by Nigel’s lecture.

Come to in on 9th February 2007 to find out more!

Cityscape 2007

When: 27th February- 1st March 2007 Where: Earls Court 2, London

SLIC has continued to be involved with Cityscape since our last successful Student Exhibition last year. This year we have been given the opportunity to design and create the centrepiece ‘Streetscene’ for the exhibition and conference at Earls Court 2, and, we have been given extra exhibition space. This provides a chance for you, the students, and your universities to showcase work to the professionals attending the event!

This event arrives at a pinnacle time with the world’s focus on our environment. Some of the leaders in sustainability products and design theories will converge to hear the very latest in progress to reduce carbon emissions and increase the longevity of a liveable planet.

We have negotiated heavily discounted prices on your behalf for the conference so you can benefit from the first time that the annual events Futurebuild, Ecobuild, Regenex and Cityscape have combined into one!

The event is FREE to students to look around the halls and 60 free of charge seminars for students to attend. Also, there is a conference consisting of 6 half day modules and we’ve haggled them to Ł25.00 per module!

Prices are good and so places will go fast, book your place now to have a chance to attend! If there’s a group of you interested maybe there’s potential for a university organised trip?

We are soon to arrange a prize draw for free places so look out for the ad on the website and on the mailing list!

    This is first time in my life when I don’t know what to say. After reading all comments I’m shocked. What has happened with our society, with our young generation? They are commenting terrible information, their lexis sounds terrible. Is that true, that only words they know is “cool”, “cute” and cussing words? What are they thinking of? It’s better not to think about it, it’s too sad
