Published by laurabradley December 6th, 2004 in Competitions, NewsUniversity of Central England (UCE) student, Laura Bradley, is celebrating after winning a recognised student award.
The 27-year-old Landscape Architecture student, who lives in Stratford Upon Avon, won the 2004 Ede and Ravenscroft prize in recognition for both her contribution to student life and for her work with the Student Landscape Institute Council (SLIC).
The Ede and Ravenscroft prize is awarded annually to the UCE student who is considered to have made the greatest contribution to the life of their educational institution. Professor Derek Cassidy, associate dean at Birmingham Institute of Art and Design, UCE, said: “Laura has always shown a mature approach and positive attitude to her study. She has been very supportive and helpful to her peers in the group and contributes considerable added value to both her practical and theoretical lessons.
“Laura was also instrumental in establishing the Student Landscape Institute Council (SLIC) at UCE. She has worked hard to ensure that the SLIC has grown and offers students of design - not just landscape architecture - the opportunities to meet and work together.”
Laura is completing her UCE degree on a part-time study basis, as she also successfully runs her own landscape design business as well as working for a London based garden design company.
Laura added: “I was so surprised and delighted to hear that I had won this prize. It has been a wonderful year and the tutors have been incredibly supportive. It has also been a fantastic opportunity to be involved with SLIC at UCE.
“SLIC gives landscape and design students a voice and an opportunity to be involved and attend events at universities. Last year there was a calendar competition and various events across the country and a landscape summer school were held in Nottingham in June. We are hoping that next year’s events in Edinburgh will be even more successful.”
Laura plans to use her cash prize of £1,000 to help develop her garden and landscape design business.
