Chartered landscape architects take a similar career route to that of a town planner or architect. The majority of landscape architects begin their career by undertaking a course accredited by the Landscape Institute.

Courses can be either:

  • Undergraduate entry, often consisting of both a degree and diploma or an MA and usually incorporating a period of work experience.
  • Postgraduate, after taking a degree in another subject. If your first degree was in a subject not specifically related to landscape, many universities offer a conversion course.

On successfully completing an accredited postgraduate course, graduates are eligible for Associate membership of the Landscape Institute and can begin qualifying work experience towards the Professional Practice Examination, and Chartered status.
