When the landscape architecture course was merged with the architecture course there were a few dissenting voices; people didn’t think it would work, were worried that it was simply a ruse to save money, whatever.
It happened and it’s the best thing that could have happened to the landscape architects. Now we enjoy large open plan studios, on one side the post grad course is doing crits, in the middle the first year combined architects, landscape architects and garden designers are making models and at the other end the combined 2nd years are launching the next project which happens to be centred around landscape.
It’s buzzing! Three years studying across one floor mean there’s always someone’s shoulder to peer over, pinned up work gets seen by everyone and talked about and the place is never empty. It’s a real incentive to work. The architects have had landscape shoved right underneath their noses and as landscape architects we’re developing and believing that there are no limits to what we can achieve.
Edge Building feels like a well worn office. There’s the canteen downstairs, resource room upstairs, tutors are friendly and really helpful, they’ll always take the extra time to help you achieve what you want. The free flow between the disciplines means we know each other and we talk and learn from one another, it’s invaluable. It’s a great work environment and great fun.
