Landscape managers need to be agile and adaptable in terms of their skills, and the landscpe management course at Reading has been designed with this in mind. The result is a course that combines a wide variety of lecture subjects with a range of practical sessions, providing opportunities to apply what you learn in a hands-on way. This includes mini design projects, outdoor work in the university grounds and field work (such as trips to the Eden project and other historic gardens).
The first two years provide a knowledge of relevant subjects, ranging from law and computing to plant physiology and design principles, before a year out working in an industrial placement. This can be in the UK or overseas and is a great opportunity to broaden your knowledge and horizons at the same time. On returning, the final year involves project work and modules that put what you’ve learned into a professional context.
As well as having a diverse, involved landscape course, the university is well equipped for student life, recognising the need to play as hard as you work. Reading is a thriving community and there’s plenty to get involved with in the way of clubs, societies and nightlife, including the 3Sixty nightclub in the centre of the campus.
So if you want a career in landscape management that’s rewarding and fun, put Reading at the top of your list.
